Hey, guess who's a newly converted Angeleno? Nah I haven't been adopted by the Jolies, I've moved to LA, baby (well, downtown LA to be exact)!! I grew up around the area, but things have changed so much I feel like it's a wholly new experience. There are so many nooks and crannies I have yet to check out, it gets me excited talking about it. Venice Beach and Melrose (West Hollywood) area are by far my favorite places to shop/eat/walk around. The hippie, happy go lucky, artist vibe of Venice Beach puts the me at ease-- a take-it-one-day-at-a-time mind set. A dramatic change from what I'm used to in New York City for the past 6 years. And the ostentatious but quirky hodgepodge of fashionistas and celebrities of Melrose/West Hollywood is exactly what I had imagined of Tinseltowners. The ivy-ridden high end boutiques are works of art in itself. It's 80degrees, clear skies almost everyday here, and it's only going to get harder to get my ass back to NYC. Oh, and the Mexican food here. Ermagosh. Goodbye skinny jeans.
What brought me out here to LA you ask? New York City was getting all too familiar and the incoming brisk winter made it that much easier for this impulsive decision. The past few months have been a whirlwind of uncertainty and discontent. Running around to job interviews and freelancing here and there wasn't really cutting it out for me. I needed something solid and a new & exciting learning experience. I do miss the craziness that is NYC, though. And my lovely, lovely friends (most of whom, luckily for me, are from Cali). A week into the idea running through my head, I got hired at Nasty Gal as part of their amazing digital marketing team. Couldn't have worked out any better, I'll tell you that. So I packed all my shit, and that was that. Moving out here couldn't have been better than the adventure I was waiting for. Life is short; sometimes you have to let go of your inhibitions and create the experiences you want in life. Or maybe I'm just too free spirited. Next up, Brazil?
BTW, NG just opened up their first brick and mortar on Melrose Ave, and it's sick. Check it out if you're around the area. If you have been following the brand from the get-go, then this will tickle your fancy and all that you have been dreaming of. It embodies everything the brand stands for -- empowering kickass girls who just kick ass. It doesn't hurt working alongside an inspiring CEO, too. I was able to speak to Sophia Amoruso before the ribbon cutting on the grand opening -- MORE on that in the next posts to come. Seeing first hand the cult following this brand has with young girls who stood in line for hours on end shows you how important for a company to have purpose and a message. #GirlBoss.
Who else is obsessed with the sexy jumpsuit numbers at NG? Trust me, my employee discounts have not gone to waste. I thought the back drop of Abbot Kinney in Venice Beach would compliment this outfit well, fun and a little eccentric. Right before I stuffed my face with fish tacos (which were the tits) at James' Beach (that restaurant in 'I Love You, Man') and had a little too much to drink at Rooster Fish.
