Whenever I head back home to Cambodia for the summer, it's a must that we take family trips to Bangkok and Hong Kong. Something about big crowded Asian cities and shopping? Unfortunately this time around Big Pops couldn't join us. The three of us made a pact (under the dictatorship of Mama Kao more so) that throughout this trip we would avoid taking taxis as much as possible-- that by taking public transportation could we really immerse ourselves with the people and the city. And that we did. Boy, lots of walking! A much needed exercise to burn off all the food we consumed --especially in Bangkok. I can't count the number of Boat Noodles I had there. In Hong Kong, we took the tram from Queen St. all the way to Chai Wan --yes we had lots of spare time-- stopping where it looked interesting and giving our feet rest during meal times only. I burned my way through a pair of sandals (Goodbye my mediocre-made Steve Maddens). I lack pictures of these events only because my camera loved Hong Kong so much it decided to stay behind. Too bad you can't see my hard rock calves. Excuse the amateurism of these photos, I make do with what's on my brother's camera and my iPhone.
Hong Kong, a melting pot of rich colonial English and Oriental history and Bangkok an industrial giant with overpowering religious traditions. I can see why some of you would think of this trip as more of an episode of the Amazing Race rather than a vacation -- what can I say, my family loves living that fast paced life. Next year's trip we'll have to switch it up to something a little more tranquil... I'm thinking Palawan, Philippines or Maldives anyone?
Apologies for the loooong hiatus! Loving every second at home with family, best friends, and my dogs a little too much. Stay tuned for my next blog post in my beautiful home town Phnom Penh, Cambodia!
Oh, and wet greetings from Teddy, my overly rambunctious lab. :)
